INTRODUCCIÓN
This book presents the transcript of the event “Walk On: Supporting the Wellbeing of Police Officers in Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) Investigations”, held on 29 April 2025 at the School of Psychology, Liverpool John Moores University. The event took the form of a seminar organised by the School of Psychology at LJMU as part of its cooperation agreement with the Guardia Civil University Centre (CUGC), Spain, signed in April 2024. Dr Ricardo Tejeiro, Principal Lecturer at LJMU, coordinated the event in close collaboration with Lieutenant Colonel Blas Guillamón, Head of Research at the CUGC.
This seminar was the second in a series on police wellbeing, following a previous session held at the Guardia Civil Headquarters in Madrid in December 2024. The event aimed to explore and compare how various police forces across different jurisdictions provide both formal and informal psychological support to officers and staff involved in Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) investigations.
To this end, senior police officers and experts from five countries — the United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Poland, and the Republic of Ireland — travelled to Liverpool. After a series of short presentations focused on the psychological support practices used by the different police forces in this area of work, the invited experts engaged in a debate with the audience covering topics such as variations in practice across jurisdictions, whether psychological reviews should be mandatory or voluntary (and how frequently they should occur), the effectiveness of peer-support schemes, and the confidentiality of support interactions, among others.
